A fascinating piece from this Sunday’s Washington Post examines how multiple factions in Syria’s increasingly bloody and hopeless conflict have been turning to the same types of Internet “crowdsourcing” strategies increasingly used in the world of entrepreneurial technology. Why? Essentially for the identical reasons that the tech-geeks are doing it: If you can’t convince some huge VC “angel investor” (or, perhaps, the US Military) to finance your “ideas” (that is, your laser-guided, shoulder-launched anti-tank missiles), it makes perfect sense to down-size your “ask” – but exponentially up-size your outreach.
