Chat-bot Love & Chat-bot War: Comin’ at ya!

Most technologists believe real artificial intelligence is at least 10-20 years in the future. After reading this piece about “chatbots,” however, I’m starting to wonder if the future isn’t arriving a tad sooner than expected. Who knew, for example, that chatbots are now actually FLIRTING WITH EACH OTHER? Or that you can buy a private army of chatbots for a mere $250??? (Note to self: place order first thing tomorrow morning . . .)

Regardless of what all this portends for intelligent computing, there actually is a very serious back-story here regarding everything from espionage to the theft of valuable intellectual property. Not to mention that most people using online dating sites probably aren’t looking for imaginary companionship. From what I’m told, there are actually better websites for that sort of thing (admittedly somewhat less technological).
